Treatment Services
These are all terms that refer to services that a psychologist offers to help patients. The use of these different terms can sometimes be confusing for the general public. Although there may be some subtle differences in the use of these terms, for the most part these terms are used interchangeably.
Dr. Born’s approach to psychological treatment is collaborative, developing goals and plans that are best suited to the patient’s needs. He tends to take a pragmatic problem-oriented, solutions-oriented approach whenever possible with patients. He utilizes a variety of cognitive therapy, behavioral, educational, coping skills training, and client centered approaches. When appropriate, he incorporates biofeedback and other self-regulation oriented approaches. Each patient’s care is individualized.
The psychological treatment sessions offered by Dr. Born are typically 50 – 57 minutes per visit. The frequency of visits is commonly one visit per week initially, then tapering to less frequent visits. The length of the treatment process varies greatly from patient to patient, depending upon the presenting problem and the patient’s individual circumstances. Some patients are seen for a one-visit consultation while other patients may require extended on-going treatment.
